How to connect to a display
Connect VerseCAST to a display
the easy way - with Google Cast which is build in to any Android TV or an inexpensive Google Chromecast with Google TV 4K HDMI dongle for around $50 - we recomend this solution for permanent installation at church
the available way - with anything that can display a Web Page
* Make sure your Phone is connected to the same WiFi as your display.
Web browser
VerseCAST publishes the main presentation as a Web Page hosted on your device meaning any device that runs a Web Browser can be used as a display.
Go to Menu / Displays
You can see the URL in the Main Presentation column
Enter the URL to the address bar of a Web Browser on your Display/TV/Projector
Samsung, LG and Vizio TV’s have a web browser build in. Many manufacturers include a web browser for their WiFi enabled projectors - including Epson, BenQ, ViewSonic, Anker, LG, Optoma, Sony and XGIMI
Google Cast
Tap the cast icon in the upper right corner
List of Google Cast devices will be displayed
Select device you want to connect to
Google Cast is build in to any Android TV - including smart TV’s of Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Sharp, Hisense, TCL and many others. If you don’t have a Google Cast capable device - you can purchase a Google Chromecast 4K dongle for arround 50$. VerseCAST themes are developed to be running smoothly up to 4K on this device.
Advanced
Follow these steps for a serious setup at church or permanent location.
How to disable Screensaver on Android TV and Chromecast
Only necessary if you use Google Cast to connect to your display.
All Android TV’s have a screensaver feature enabled by default. This leads to a screensaver screen disturbing VerseCAST presentation after a longer period of inactivity. If you want to disable the screensaver - follow these steps (one time only)
On your Android TV or Chromecast
Go to Settings > System > About
Tap multiple times on ‘Android TV OS Build’ - until you see a ‘You are now a developer’ message
Go to Settings > System > Developer options and set ‘Stay awake’ to ON (blue)
Only necessary if you use URL and a web browser to connect to your display and you want to simplify the connection and bookmark the display page. This is also necessary if you want to setup subtitles for your stream (see next section)
If your display URL keeps changing
-
The device running VerseCAST needs to have static IP address within your local network. This is necessary so your display URL won't change every time you reconnect to your WiFi.
This is a limitation of internet protocols and hardware.
-
The WiFi adapter on the device running VerseCAST has a unique name that you need to provide to your network administrator.
On your device go to "Settings" > "WiFi" and click the (i) icon next to the WiFi you are connecting to.
iOS:
Disable "Private Wi-Fi Address"
Write down the information in "Wi-Fi Address" field
Write down the information in “IP Address” field
Android:
Tap "Privacy" > And set to "Use device MAC address"
Write down information in "MAC address" field
Write down information in “IPv4 address” field
-
This part is for your WiFi/network administrator (not the internet provider) - he is the one to be making this change!
Go to the configuration page of your WiFi router. The URL (something like http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1), Login and Password can usually be found on the bottom sticker of your WiFi router.
Add new rule in DHCP section of your router - Search for ”Fixed IP Address”, “Static IP” or “Address reservation”
Click Add/New (or similar)
provide the "MAC address" you wrote down in the previous step.
provide IP address you wrote down i previous step.
Make sure that the rule is enabled
You might be asked to restart your router.
Reconnect to the WiFi and wait for the change to take effect.
Subtitle display for Streams
If you are streaming your church services, chances are that you want to have a presentation as subtitles in your stream. VerseCAST publishes this kind of presentation on a different URL (which can be found on Menu / Displays). You can incorporate this stream presentation in to your stream using OBS and vMIX
